Hassan Returned to Gaza

Posted on Mon, 05/28/2018 - 21:39 by Jesse Tilman

Our boy Hassan has returned to his home in Gaza.  After several weeks of care and nutrition, he has become able to. Praise the Lord! He battled through viruses, frailty, and the heart condition.

He actually returned over a week ago, but the family went by their own methods and it was a little while before we found out.

We'll see them again in a month or so when they are scheduled to come back for their next check-up. I miss seeing them already, but am glad they could get back to home and family.

May our Father in Heaven watch over them!

Improving Day By Day

We visited little Hassan today. He looked so tiny in his bed, but his auntie was pleased to tell us that he is getting a bit bigger. She showed us his surgery scar healing up. She told us that he's been taken off Oxygen today, and that he is managing to feed orally, taking around 20mls of milk every 2 hours, before falling back to sleep again.

Auntie and Hassan have now spent nearly 2 months together in the hospital. She says that she has been able to video call with mum so she can see how her little boy is getting on, but it's a long time being apart. Auntie also says that Hassan will be 3 months old tomorrow, so we celebrate and give thanks to our Father for watching over him these difficult times, and away from his parents.

Getting Healthier

Little Hassan is drinking lots of milk and gaining weight. He's in ICU still, getting extra care. His guardian looks well and and is positive for the future. We have good hopes for their next few days.

Back in the ICU

Hassan has moved back to the cardiological ICU. He is still struggling with breathing because of a left lower lobe collapse. For supporting his breathing oxygen is now administered via nasal cannula to him.

After having a nice bath and relaxing in the mom's arms he was awake and interested in his surroundings. So it seemed as if he is really improving now.

In the Ward

Jesse and I had the opportunity to briefly visit and pray with Hassan today in the children's ward. He has experienced a few episodes of arrhythmia in the last 24 hours and has been inconsistently responding to medication. The doctors remain concerned about his weight gain and he has been moved onto a higher calorie concentrate zinfutrini formula. At the moment Hassan continues to require close observation and the doctors are not predicting a timescale for his discharge from hospital.

Extubated and In Good Health

Young Hassan is doing well and may soon be discharged. He's awake at times and feeding. He still has a nasal oxygen cannula, but it's on the lowest setting. His widowed aunt, who is accompanying him, is cheerful and looking forward to seeing her relatives soon.

Hassan came to us urgently and in desperate need when he first came. Now to see him in good health and growing is amazing! God has done a special work for this little guy through the hands of many people - Jewish, Christian, and Muslim.

Extubated and Stable

Today it was good to see little Hassan extubated and stable. After some unsussesful extubation atttempts, it is a good sign that he has been breathing unassisted for a whole day now. He is still a little underweight, but was feeding when we arrived. I pray that he gets stronger and stronger!

Re-Intubated

Unfortunately Little Hassan had to be re-intubated yesterday to aid his breathing. The staff are also trying different formulas and nutrition to bulk him up a bit. This poor little fella need God’s help and strength!

Trial Breaths

I got to visit teeny tiny Hassan for the first time today. He is currently off the respirator, and was extubated this morning. The ICU team have him on oxygen, and are seeing how he goes breathing on his own. They said his main risk factor now is that his bodyweight is too low, and he may not have the strength to keep breathing on his own until he gets heavier and stronger. If he deteriorates, they will have to intubate him again. Let’s pray for this tiny one, that God would infuse him with strength, and that he will pull through. Nothing is impossible for the Creator.

Weaning and Improvements

Hassan’s condition has been slowly improving. He has been suffering from lung infection with RS virus, although his heart condition, after the surgery, has been favorable. He weaned ventilator last week, and his lungs are getting better.  However, they failed to extubate him. They will try again maybe this week.

He is now opening his eyes, making eye contacts. His aunt is doing fine, persevering. We pray for this little child, that he will recover soon and have a good life.
