Extubated and Stable

Posted on Wed, 04/18/2018 - 16:49 by Maxine Stuart

Today it was good to see little Hassan extubated and stable. After some unsussesful extubation atttempts, it is a good sign that he has been breathing unassisted for a whole day now. He is still a little underweight, but was feeding when we arrived. I pray that he gets stronger and stronger!

Re-Intubated

Unfortunately Little Hassan had to be re-intubated yesterday to aid his breathing. The staff are also trying different formulas and nutrition to bulk him up a bit. This poor little fella need God’s help and strength!

Trial Breaths

I got to visit teeny tiny Hassan for the first time today. He is currently off the respirator, and was extubated this morning. The ICU team have him on oxygen, and are seeing how he goes breathing on his own. They said his main risk factor now is that his bodyweight is too low, and he may not have the strength to keep breathing on his own until he gets heavier and stronger. If he deteriorates, they will have to intubate him again. Let’s pray for this tiny one, that God would infuse him with strength, and that he will pull through. Nothing is impossible for the Creator.

Weaning and Improvements

Hassan’s condition has been slowly improving. He has been suffering from lung infection with RS virus, although his heart condition, after the surgery, has been favorable. He weaned ventilator last week, and his lungs are getting better.  However, they failed to extubate him. They will try again maybe this week.

He is now opening his eyes, making eye contacts. His aunt is doing fine, persevering. We pray for this little child, that he will recover soon and have a good life.

Recovering

Hassan is getting better slowly. His aunt is taking care of him. He is still on oxygen and at least three medications. His aunt is optimistic. A heat lamp is over him with a monitor of body temperature as well as a bag infusing more blood.

He's getting good care from the staff and a special volunteer there today. An older lady who came to check on things. She looked over his dressings and then when we asked, at his reports as well.

He is in isolation and we wear the blue gown, gloves, and face mask when entering his room. His guardian is positive and seems settled in, ready to wait for Hassan's healing. It's a lot to bear, but she's holding up well.

Hassan - Moderate Progress

Posted on Sun, 03/25/2018 - 21:35 by Johanna Ebert

When we visited Hassan today, he did not look any different from the last time we saw him, which shocked us, because we expected him to be better. However, he was still sedated and still on a breathing machine. It is really  hard for his aunt, who stays by her nephew’s side, but  cannot  help this little fellow. Nevertheless, the doctor could give us good news- he can see some improvement, although the progress is very slowly, it is still there. He is optimistic that Hassan can recover completely! Let’s continue to pray for the sweet little boy!

Intubated in ICU

This morning I visited Hassan in ICU. He is still intubated and on ventilation. His recovery is going slowly. Yesterday he had a fever and they started him on antibiotics. He also has problems with transportation of the oxygen in his body. Therefore he suffers from high blood pressure in the pulmonary artery. He started on medication and hopefully that will help him. Please pray that the medication will help Hassan to recover from his surgery.

Prayer for Hassan

This morning I saw Hassan in the ICU. He was admitted yesterday in an very unstable condition and was already operated on today in the afternoon. The operation was very complex. The nurse said there were three heart problems but she mentioned only that the baby had only one ventricle. The first couple of hours he was still unstable but when they changed the ventilation he became more stable. Please pray that God's hand is upons Hassan's life.

Emergent Arrival

Yesterday night, a new child from Gaza arrived at Sheba in an ambulance. At the time of arrival, his vital signs were very unstable. He was intubated and moved to the ICU. The medical team tried to stabilize his condition overnight. When we arrived, he was surrounded by many doctors, with many lines connected. CT scan was done today for precise assessment.

He was with his aunt. His aunt looked very anxious and worried. After having a cup of tea and talking in Arabic with Suhail, she calmed down a little bit. Still the situation is not settled, and we have to pray for him.
