Now there is a homograft of a young Israeli girl in the heart of this Iraqi young man

An update received today from Shevet Achim volunteer Dirk Kleinloh:

Dear all,

The picture says it all!! Allen, the young Iraqi man who had heart surgery Wednesday in Israel, is recovering fast.

The first three hours of Allen’s five-hour plus surgery were difficult or even severe, according to the surgeon, because it was the second surgery in the same place. There was strong bleeding but they were able to control it by God’s grace. After this they placed a homograft, or replacement blood vessel from an organ donor. Now there is a homograft of a young Israeli girl in the heart of this Iraqi young man. The surgeons think that it will last for many years, hopefully all of his life.

Allen was off the ventilator this morning; he has a throat ache and chest pain, but that is quite normal at this point. We spoke with him quite a lot until the doctor sent us out and said that he had had enough for today. Allen is very happy that the surgery went well.

We really felt your prayers carrying us through. Allen and Adiba (his mother) were so very frightened and fearfull before the surgery, they shed many tears. But now Adiba is relieved. They want you all to know how thankful they are for people standing with them in prayer in this difficult situation of their lives and are asking you to continue until they are through.

Dirk and his wife Manuela are from Germany but have been living in Jordan for several years. Their own newborn baby girl, Jomana (pictured right), was discovered to have a heart defect and also had surgery last week in the same hospital in Israel:

Jomana also got her final checkup today and, praise the Lord, everything is fine. She is laughing at everybody just like before and is very hungry all the time. We are so thankful for your supplication on our behalf and are aware that it is by God’s grace and provision that she is doing so well. We will be leaving Israel again probably on Friday morning to return to Jordan.

You wouldn’t know it from Dirk’s cheerful report, but this morning he awoke to find that his recently purchased van had been stolen from the parking lot of the Shevet Achim office in Jerusalem, just as the ministry van was also taken six months ago. We are trusting in God’s provision and that he DOES work all things together for good. Please intercede with us for this precious family serving the Lord in the Middle East.
